Phone the emergency services immediately, dial 112.The evacuation of the area is a safety measure that is regularly adopted by the authorities. In the event that you are told to leave your home, or the surroundings, please do so as quickly and calmly as possible.
If you do not have time to leave your property, follow the following advice:
- Try to inform the authorities as to your whereabouts.
- Remove any inflamable objects (including garden furniture) from around your house.
- Hermetically seal the house as well as yoou can.
- Disconnect all supplies of gas, heating oil etc.
- Fill your bathtubs, sinks and any other recipients with water.
- Wear cotton clothes, boots, long trousers, long sleeved shirt, cover your mouth and nose with a handkerchief, and protective glasses.
- Keep your clothes wet.
- Place all your important documents and objects in the car (don't forget the keys!), in the garage, with the doors shut, in case you need to leave quickly.
- Disconnect any automatic garage doors etc.
- If you have time, take down any curtains.
- If the fire reaches your house, the best you can do is to stay inside and keep the property as well sealed as possible.
- If the previous measures are followed, you will be safer in your house than if you try to cross the line of fire.
