Firewall:

This is a relatively wide area where the natural vegetation is modified to leave a type and quantity of combustible material, the purpose being to make it easier to stop or control the ground fires that reach it, and to serve as the basis for a line of defense.

Auxilary skirt:

This is a skirt of a fixed width on either side of a road or way where trees are pruned and undergrowth is removed.

Pruning and cutting:

Consists of eliminating the lower branches of the trees and cutting any wild growth, to break the vertical continuity of the combustible material.

Weed undergrowth:

Elective elimination or reduction of shrubs.

Watering systems:

These are automatic or manual systems of pressurised watering which are activated in the presence of fire to protect or cool a determined zone.
